Technical Section

MAJOR CHANGES! Sorry to all who were following the Axle and V8 conversion but the goal has changed!  See below for changes.

A section dedicated to the technical aspects of owning and off roading a Landrover.  This section will not cover much “Haynes Manual” type work but generally more of those “larger” projects that people feel are out of their reach.  All these projects are done on tight budgets and done in-house.  None of the people are professionals, all just amateurs like you and me.

At present most of these projects are on going but as they become finished they will be re-ordered and placed in the “Finished Projects Section”.  Also take a look at the bottom of the page at “Future plans”.  This will give a description of technical aspects that are planned and when they should be taking place.

On-going Projects:  Click on the Heading to go to the relevant page.

Hybrid Construction (My Series 3) This is a VERY detailed look at building a V8 Rangerover and Series 3 hybrid.  If you want to build a hybrid, follow this project.  UPDATED AT LEAST WEEKLY!!

Hybrid Construction (Gerry) A look at building a hybrid from scratch.  Gerry is a good mate of mine that is using a Rangerover and a series 1 to build a trialer.  This section covers the chassis cut down and will soon look at the putting the bodywork on.

Finished Projects

Repairing a Rotten Spring Hanger: We all know there is nothing worse than finding huge holes in the chassis.  On my series 3 I discovered a large crack about 15 inches long.  Replacing the entire spring hanger is difficult and time consuming. This is how Grahame and myself fixed the hanger without even removing the parabolics.

Future Plans

Grahame McCaslin looks set on building a bobtail Rangerover.

Grahame is about to spray his 90.  He will look at preparation through to final polish.  This will be done on a tight budget and hopefully be a helpful guide to spraying your truck.

I will also be spraying my truck.  As mine is severely battered I wont be spending as much time preparing so the two articles should be interesting to compare.

Andy Broome has been tempted to restore a Series 1 for trailling.

And much more down the pipeline.  If you feel you have a technical re-build or conversion that could be posted here on the site then please mail me.  I would need write-ups and pictures but it must be Landrover based.  Any vehicle within the range can be posted, the more there are the more helpful this site can be for other Landrover fanatics.
