Off Roading Adventures in my Series 3

Below is a list of dates and venues from the off roading I have done.  Each date has several small thumbnails below taken on the day.  Click on the little picture for the BIG picture.

Langley Farm Show Held by Yorkshire Rover Owners Club

September 2000

A great weekend held in Yorkshire by the Y.R.O.C.  Camped with Andy and another good friend of mine Gerry (raving mad Scotsman who owns a Series 2 and is building a Rangie/Series 1 hybrid).  A simple but good fun off road course.  It was all a bit of a blur as Andy and Gerry had bought an entire brewery of Stella, which was all consumed in one night!).  A weekend recommended for drinking, socialising and getting nice and muddy.

Mou Cop

September 2000

Sited south of Manchester this is a great site that covers all terrains.  Very muddy and a great bit field that everyone got stuck in.  Some steep but small climbs and drops and some great ruts.  Andy came along and helped tow me out on several occasions!

Briercliffe

November 2000

A site that will scare the willies out of even the hardest off roader. Some great steep drops and climbs.  This site will put all Landrovers to the test.  Some deep water and a muddy field.  The main slate mined area is the best with some serious axle twisting.  My landy however broke after an hour or so with seized points.  A small tow to the pub and an AA man and I was back on the road.

Brymbo

14th Jan

My Landy broke down the morning of this event so a friend of mine drove me to the site and thanks to Andy’s reliable Landy he drove me round in his.  Quite a big site with deep water, mud, steep drops and some axle twisting areas.  Cant wait to drive this with my Landy soon.

Briercliffe Nr Burnley

28th Jan

The Landy finally started and drove all the way to the site without stalling once!!

Artic like conditions, snow, 100mph winds (well felt like it..) and severe cold did not deter us at all.  The site was as scary as ever and local boys Timsy and George joined us in their Series 3.  Both a great laugh all though their “..well you try it first as you’ve a roll cage….” tactics seemed a little dodgy to me.  Thankfully it kept on all four wheels.  Some serious drops, mud and loads of recovery (I think we recovered half a dozen non-landys and one Landrover).  This was the best I’ve ever done and can’t wait to try more!!!  Take a look at the drop photos below.  It is as steep as it looks, and Timsys S3 has both rear wheels in the air.  For a second there we thought he was over…

Green Laning Near Bolton

February 28th

I went along in the truck with Jamie, a housemate of mine, and met George and Timmsy in their Series 3 truck.

We went up around the Bolton hills on a lovely sunny day.  The track was rocky and tough.  One guy in a Lada Niva 4x4 said “no way, its impassable…” well we got up and down no problem!  We played about on top for a bit then headed to Timmsys house for a cup of tea.  Timmsy then took us to a little site for a half hour play in the mud.  DISASTER STRUCK!  After a bit of playing I drove the Landy into a bog at exactly the same time as Timmsy hit a deep ditch filled with water.  We were completely in the shit, literally.  The high lifts came out, sticks, bricks, blood sweat and nearly tears!  It was now getting dark and we were considering staying the night! Thankfully we tracked one of Timmsys mates down who came and rescued us in a Series 3 some two hours later.  I really need a winch…….

Playday at Little Missenden (Bucks)

April the 8th

A huge thanks goes out to Laura for this one.  A great lady (if a little mad!) that contacted me through my web site.  After a three month starvation of off roading, Laura invited me along to the play day.

The day started Grahame meeting me and we drove to Amersham.  There we met Laura and her friends who had a HUGE variety of Landrovers.  90`s, Series 3`s, Rangerovers and bobtails were among the bunch.  We all headed off in convoy to the site and arrived at a wooded area with a track that runs right round the site.  It had some great steep drops, mud and some really twisty areas.  My steel side sills came in use, as some of those trees were tight!  It was a great day had by all.
